COSTUME DEPARTMENT #1

I thought I may share with you, notable outfits and costume design from the films I have recently seen.
First up is Last Year at Marienbad, a French film directed by Alain Resnais in 1961. It's a very mysterious and repetitive movie that explores memories, dejavu and the possibility of a relationship between the two main characters. An accurate way to explain the film would be to say that it was painstaking to watch but very satisfying to have watched it.
Delphine Seyrig who plays the main brunette (there are no names given to characters) wears only a few different outfits throughout the film. Two of those particularly took my fancy.

1. This light coloured floaty dress, with a pleated knee length skirt and tight bustier, and my favourite aspect of it; the mesh/chiffon covering her shoulders and arms.

2. I think this black dress is the same or quite similar to the lighter one above, but this time, topped off with an awesome tribal looking necklace.

The costume designer was Bernard Evein, who was also costume designer on Lola, Bay of Angels and A Taste For Women. The key makeup artist was Alexandre Marcus who was also makeup artist on many other films in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
