COSTUME DEPARTMENT #4

These costume department posts are always on the verge of becoming incomprehensibly long winded, due to the number of people involved in any particular film and their other work.

So. Prepare yourself.

Recently I met up with Michael Clements, a local photographer, and he suggested I watch There's Only One Sun directed by Wong Kar Wai. I's so glad he did as it's a gorgeous short film with beautiful costumes and cinematography. It features Amelie Daure as Agent 006, the main character.

Unfortunately I can't find any reference to who the costume designer might be. Regardless, here are some stills of the costumes, with the tulle/organza coats making the most frequent appearances.

Wong Kar Wai's other films include; 2046Chungking Express and In the Mood For Love.

There are many individuals that have roles in film production that often do not get credited due to their comparatively smaller roles. One of these is Stephan Pilon Lectez, who was in charge of the car sequences, cave interior, final colour grading and beauty work on There's Only One Sun. His other work includes visual effects on Beyonce's Sweet Dreams video, Jean Paul Gaultiers J.P.G : 45 video and many more.

Beyonce wears a black outfit by Roberto Cavalli, gold robot suit by Thierry Mugler and jewellery by Bijules designer Jules Kim.

  1. All of Wong Kar Wai's films are just so beautifully done...hadn't seen this one though, thanks for sharing! 'In the mood for love' is just perfection. It uses the same song as the one towards the end of this film too...

  3. Of all Wong Kar Wai's films, I've only seen 2046 but it absolutely blew my mind - the costumes, the saturated colours... I've definitely got to see some of his others.
