So, Ornella's outfits led me to Beyonce (who seems to be a MACHINE idol). The first image is the one I associated with Ornella, but that is only the underpart of the whole costume which seems to be heavily inspired by another film; Metropolis.

Then of course in this whole vein of metallic bodily adornments we have Beyonce's infamous hand. I hadn't ever actually bothered finding out who had created it, up until now. It was created by Beyonce's longtime jeweller, Lorraine Schwartz, but completely Beyonce's idea. Apparently Beyonce's whole upper arm was cast in wax so that the glove would fit perfectly, and it actually made of a ring, a glove and a separate arm component which can be worn together or separately.

I couldnt find a website for Lorraine Schwartz but this online store Churchill, sells some of her designs. That said, I only suggest visiting the store if you have a few thousand million dollars spare. Here are some earrings by Lorraine:

They also stock a lot of Erickson Beamon and some other interesting items. Bracelet by Epoca, earrings by Robert Goossens.

ORNELLA MUTI

I was reminded of the movie Flash Gordon the other night at the Ed. I fell in love with Princess Aura's costumes immediately, Princess Aura is played by actress Ornella Muti.
Now you'll see this led me on a sprawled out internet browse... The metallic armoured look of Ornella's costume reminded me of Beyonce's outfits, so that'll be next.

She was also considered a fair babe in her time, and as such, featured on some titillating covers.

And this ad for the film "Come Home And Meet My Wife" featuring Ornella Muti, actually reminds me of todays American Apparel ads.

NATURAL FASHION

I ordered Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa from Amazon and it arrived today. It's a great collection of photographs, mainly head adornments. Here's one pic, I'd post more but I won't because of the whole copyright thing...

TUSH

I have just discovered TUSH magazine, it has nice online features, and in terms of content it's amazing. Im not sure if it exists in print, I assume it does, and MY GOODNESS do I wish I could get my hands on it. The "dental appointment" vibe in the beauty feature is awesome, great styling choice I'd say.

Here is a beauty feature:

ROADSIDE

Just a bit of an outfit post to mix it up... I am absolutely ADORING looser fit pants at the moment. These ones I got given by my boyfriend's grandmother also, they are Dorothee Bis all wool pants, so unbelievably warm. And yes, I have most definitely tucked them into my boots, matta fact.

ACNE WINTER 2010

I just completely want this whole look, from the Acne RTW Winter 10/11 collection. Except for the shoes, not sold on them. This is actually so amazing I can't handle it. Mmm... Like a strappy dress, but it's a structured top, and it has a random middle strap, and her head, and that fabric. Oh, ACNE!

LOEWE RIDER

Saw these Loewe earrings in Vogue Nippon April 2010. They're from the SS 2010 collection, and they're awesome. I can't find anywhere that stocks them though. Oh well, I suppose that's for the best...

FRUIT OF MY LOINS

Today in class I had nothing to do so I thought, "I have some clear pvc, I'M GONNA MAKE A BAG!!!"

And... it happened.

Didn't take too long, especially considering it doesn't need lining or anything, and no sewing. I really like the fact that its all held together with rivets.

Gosh. This is beautiful. It's almost solely the lighting that does it for me. I wish I had a pink suit like that...

JOSE DURAN

I've just come across Haitian born designer Jose Duran. I love the model they've used in the SS10 lookbook, she looks like someone you'd find in the Streetfighter games. All of Jose Duran's lookbooks can be found here.

JACKOATS

I have a habit of raiding my boyfriends old cupboards and stealing clothes he hasn't worn in years. Whilst I was raiding last week I found this unlined brown suede/leather jacket. Turns out my boyfriend has never actually worn it, and inherited it from his great Uncle Val who used to live in the house (which he used as a jewellery making studio). I appreciate it so much more now that I know it's history, especially since it has survived 60 years in a cupboard!

We also went to visit my boyfriends grandmother, Yvonne Harris. She owns some amazing clothes and jewellery which I will post about later. But while we were there, taking photos of her things, she suggested I try on one of her Yves Saint Laurent coats. This then lead on to her saying that the coat had been waiting for me and that I must take it. No was not going to be taken for an answer, and so this beautiful coat will now be worn all winter :)

DON'T CALL ME NO MORE DIONYZA!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

As those who know me would know, I'm no pro at nails! Most of the time my nails are non existent or ruined by wandering hammers. However! It happened today that as both Sally and I were obsessing over Mecca's Dionyza, one of us had to give in and let it go...for at least one night :) Soooo having a little bit of time on my hands and some loose glitter, I let go of Dionyza and slammed this ludicrous shade of green into my life.
