CORRINE DAY

Photographer Corrine Day apparently passed away yesterday from a brain tumour. I am rather shocked, as I only just discovered her work when looking through my old The Face magazines recently.

PAINT US SILLY

Last night Sal and I DJed at the Ed Castle. It was the "Colour Party" with face painters thrown in for good measure.

So we dressed in colour, played some sweet tunes and participated in the face painting!

A WANG ANITA FRAME SATCHEL

Heart skipped a beat when I saw this beauty at The New Guard yesterday. The leather is unlike anything else I've laid my hands on and although it isn't a biiiig bag it has a very heavy-duty feel. You can steal it away from me here.

SHOOT TO KILL

I'm currently packing my kit to do another shoot with The New Guard this afternoon. I think its going to be new Isabel Marant Etoile that came in earlier in the week so if that's the case, good times, good times.
I came across this lookbook for hair accessories designer Jennifer Behr recently and I'm going to be taking some cues from the makeup for the job today. Nothing beats a casual, greasy smokey.

THE ADELAIDE MAGAZINE

The current issue (September 2010) of the Adelaide magazine is "The Fashion Issue" and features none other than yours truly, and a bunch of other awesome Adelaideians!

In the "Inbox" section on p11 there is a feature on me as a shoemaker/designer.
Sally also got a mention in the article, and did my hair and makeup!

The article was written by Michael Harry, and photographed by Sven Kovac. Oh and I should give an appreciative thanks to Belinda of Claire Inc for getting me in contact with Michael Harry, thanks! :)

The Gilles Street Market got a mention on p32, featuring an interview with coordinator Jennifer Centenera.

And Divine Madness, Alice Rawlinson's label also got a page on p34! Alice Rawlinson is one third of Workshop, located at 151 Hindley Street.

COMP SHOE #2

So this is the second pair of shoes I submitted to the RM Williams competition today!

With this pair I made something that is quite out of line with their current styles, but still a current trend, with the wooden clog base.

I designed the clog base and had Bruce Miller from Shoe Lasts Australia make it for me, then I made the rest of the straps, put the eyelets in, sealed the clog and put it all together. The grey leather is kid skin, and it is lined with a sand coloured pig skin.

Oh and the nails did end up looking quite good, but they're not completely hammered in because I'll need to remove the straps to do a few more coats of the sealant when I get them back from RM's. In case you were wondering  :)

COMP SHOE #1

Today we needed to submit our shoes for the R.M. Williams competition... was a little nerve wracking making sure everything got done in time but the whole class pulled through pretty well.

This here is the first pair I submitted. It's just quite a simple black leather elastic sided chelsea boot. R.M Williams were kind enough to supply us with their pull tags, so I incorporated them into the back :)
For this pair, I wanted to make a pair that was in keeping with the R.M Williams aesthetic, was missing from their current range and that I would wear.

And in a minute... you'll get to see the second pair I submitted!

SOFT

The Face magazine may not have been entirely focused on fashion, but I always find something I like in any issue I get my hands on. After a very helpful tip-off, I got a whole bunch of them from a little vintage bookstore a few weeks ago for about $3 each... SCORE!

These two images are from different issues, but their gentleness and softness really struck me.

It's also interesting to note that both the photographers and stylists in these shoots are still prolific in the fashion industry, check out their links to see what they've done in more recent times.

HOODS #1

On Friday I visited Steph for a day of making. Steph got around to making her loofah jacket and I was finishing off her clear love heart bag.

Steph has recently returned from overseas; working with Super Super Magazine while in the UK, meeting Patricia Field and expressing her gratitude to Sofia Coppola while shopping in Sephora, amongst many other exciting things. You can check out her body of work here.

Here are some pics I took while hangin' at her hood:

One of my faves from Steph's magazine collection; Candy - "The First Transversal Style Magazine". The first issue features a shoot with Daria Werbowy and a great makeup tutorial on how to look like Uma Thurman.

THE NEW

Hey dudes. So I finally got a night off to do some bloggin. I've just started my third job (at a pub - I know right) so shit is tiiiight and I still don't have a camera. What're you going to do about it, lose all respect for me?

On top of work, last week I did makeup for a trunkshow at Lisa Ho. It was a fun little event with three models showing the latest summer season, but I, of course, have no photos to prove it. Woops!
I do however have photos from some recent shoots for The New Guard that I worked on. New Isabel Marant, ACNE, Alexander Wang, Ellery......delect. Go have a look at their online shop; they're getting some amazing accessories on board at the moment that you should definitely go eyeball/buy.
