I've been working on my range at Tafe, which is titled Tropical Fisherman. Pretty much just a bunch of shoes that a fisherman or his kids would wear if they lived on an island that was home to five people, with the occasional babe from the mainland coming to visit the lonely fishermen. I'll also be doing a pair or so that this said babe would wear.

So the first of the lot; Children's Watermelon Shoes.

I know Sally LOVES tassels, so I made sure to make some tassels for the laces, and gimp the edges of the pattern pieces.

D.I.Y. MARIBU EARRINGS

Sally recently posted about the House of Holland Maribu earrings. We had a little chat about them and their amazingness as well as price tag.

I decided I could make them. Easy.

So here is the accompanying D.I.Y.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

Pair of earring backers

80cm of fine feather boa

Two large crystals (I used buttons and clipped the button backs off)

Square link gold coloured chain

Wire

Small pliers

Scissors

Tarzan Grip glue

Tarzan's Grip Glue, Scissors, Pliers

Gold Coloured Wire, Fine Chain, Larger Square Link Chain

Large Crystal Buttons

Earring Backers

Fine Feather Boa

METHOD

1. First bend up the rounded dome of the earring backers (if they have one) and using pliers, open up a link in the chain and thread it through the small eye on the earring backer. Leave about 5-8 links in the chain to hang off the backer, this should be the right length.

Attached chain and opened up earring backer.

2. Cut two lengths of 40cm feather boa. Loop each one on itself twice and using a small piece of wire (about 10cm) wrap around the where the ends of the boa meet, to fix in place.

3. Open up the last link in the chain that is attached to the earring backer and hook onto the wound wire on the boa.

4. Clip off the button backs on the large crystals with pliers.

5. Put a reasonable dollop of Tarzan's Grip on the back of the crystal and press the earring backer into it. Leave to dry.

DONE!!

On Friday I went to check out a nearby Strawberry Farm where you can go and pick your own strawberries.

It was a lovely day for it, and, best of all, you can eat as many as you want free of charge while you're picking. GREAT!

This is a little strawberry flower, the centre bit that looks like a strawberry actually turns into one!

It's been a while since I've gotten dressed and felt excited and as though I'm wearing exactly what I feel like wearing. I had a long few months of wearing black on black, with not much time to really consider clothing as anything more than a tool to avoid nudity.

Firstly... HELLO!

Well, I've been back at TAFE for a little while now and we're working on high heels which are proving to be pretty straight forward, aside from the fact that the heels that I want in particular are being hard to come by. So I have a few high heels done, but they have no heels attached! I'll show you when they're done though...

So in the meantime I decided to occupy myself with a fun pair of saddled oxfords with a transparent glitter pvc saddle. They're made of all leather aside from the glitter pvc and shank.

I'm still working two jobs (one makeup/skincare, one fashion retail) with makeup applications on the side. The separate makeup jobs can be pretty fun when your client is your hairdresser and he's going to his boyfriend's chola-themed birthday party.

Did these freehand (stress out) with sharpies and a cotton bud soaked in vodka to do the fade-outs. Classy!

Hey guys. Its Sally here. Matea and I have been ruminatin' on our lives and stuff and thought it was about time we started blogging again. Plus I've had like, TWO WHOLE PEOPLE asking me whether we're going to post more anytime soon, so I'm trying to work out whether I'm doing this for them or for us. Bit o both. If I can tumblr til 2am every night I can do this, right?

We've both been super busy with our own respective break-ups, dates, shopping trips, shopping hangovers, late nights, actual hangovers, and work work work for me and the TAFE shoemaking course for Matea. We've had to cut back to one lunch/dinner date a week and cram all our gossip into that. Its a hard knock life. I don't really have a fitting image to add to this so how about I just start with the posts...

Today and yesterday I did the Bra Making Short Course at Tafe in the city. The course is run by the lovely Jennifer Nicholls. Aside from running the short course, Jennifer specialises in making made to measure bras and swimwear as well as mastectomy bras, and was ALSO the recipient of the AusIndustry TCF grant for the development of a compression mastectomy bra that is currently being trialled and tested at the Flinders University. She definitely knows bras, no doubt about that.

It should also be mentioned that the patterns and kits used in class come from a company in New South Wales called Booby Traps, from which pretty much all the components can be ordered from.

If any of you out there are interested in bra making, I would HIGHLY recommend doing this short course. It's only 2 days long, you get given patterns that you customize and alter to your size and desired style, comprehensive notes, materials, and by the end of it you will have a perfect fitting bra that you've made yourself!

Here are a few quick pics of the bra I finished today... it's all a white "power-net" mesh aside from the top of the cups and the centre-front.

Last week I was lucky enough to be approached by the wonderful Belinda (founder of online vintage empire Claire Inc.) to do makeup for her Winter 2011 lookbook. How could I say no?
I arrived at GANG to be confronted with a mountain of designer vintage clothing and accessories, photographer Daniel Noone and all-time favourite model Ally. We got down to businessssss.

One of the best things about getting my hair done by James at Gang is getting there a little earlier and catching up on magazines that you've either missed or can't afford. Such an impressive collection of back issues.

COSTUME DEPARTMENT #4

These costume department posts are always on the verge of becoming incomprehensibly long winded, due to the number of people involved in any particular film and their other work.

So. Prepare yourself.

Recently I met up with Michael Clements, a local photographer, and he suggested I watch There's Only One Sun directed by Wong Kar Wai. I's so glad he did as it's a gorgeous short film with beautiful costumes and cinematography. It features Amelie Daure as Agent 006, the main character.

Unfortunately I can't find any reference to who the costume designer might be. Regardless, here are some stills of the costumes, with the tulle/organza coats making the most frequent appearances.

Wong Kar Wai's other films include; 2046, Chungking Express and In the Mood For Love.

There are many individuals that have roles in film production that often do not get credited due to their comparatively smaller roles. One of these is Stephan Pilon Lectez, who was in charge of the car sequences, cave interior, final colour grading and beauty work on There's Only One Sun. His other work includes visual effects on Beyonce's Sweet Dreams video, Jean Paul Gaultiers J.P.G : 45 video and many more.

Beyonce wears a black outfit by Roberto Cavalli, gold robot suit by Thierry Mugler and jewellery by Bijules designer Jules Kim.

TAFE GRADUATES 2010

Just last week we got a sneak peek of some of the TAFE SA fashion design students' work. I for one was very interested to see what they came up with, as I often pass many of them in the hallways at TAFE and wonder what they are working on. Some very interesting things it appears!

I've handpicked my favourites here; they feature one garment from the six that they have made for their graduating collections.

If you like what you're seeing, you can see more at the Adelaide Fashion Festival (5th - 13th November).

The 2010 TAFE SA Graduate Parade will be held at Prince Alfred College on the 6th of November, if you want to attend, head to the Adelaide Fashion Festival website.

Former Adelaide local Alex Dubois (now Melbourne based) has just launched the first issue (00 : THE BARE ISSUE) of his most recent venture, FAINT Magazine. He was kind enough to feature me as a designer in the first issue, which can be viewed here.

Now, I didn't know Alex very well before being in contact with him for this issue, and as such didn't really know what to expect. I can honestly tell you though, I was left thoroughly impressed.

The issue features such a diverse selection of editorials and designer profiles that I really had a hard time picking a shot to present you with for this post.

Really, all I can say is: go and browse the 00 : THE BARE ISSUE now, and click to view in fullscreen mode. Clocking in at a whopping 182 pages there is DEFINITELY a lot to browse, especially since there is no advertising.

It is also worth mentioning that FAINT Magazine is currently accepting submissions for the second issue; AS ABOVE,SO BELOW. So check out the site for submission guidelines and deadlines.

A few days ago I was getting myself all in a flurry not being able to decide what to wear, and settled on this shirt I brought from Workshop. It looked a bit "meh" just with the leggings so I explored it's possibilities...and ended up with a dress. Note: I have a sewing machine, but can't ever really be bothered setting it up, so you'll find that if you can be bothered, you can replace the safety pins with thread.

Oh, the leggings are these; the wet look pantyhose from Black Milk. I've always wanted shiny tights that don't finish at the ankle and aren't latex or hugely expensive. Love them.

Here's a quick run-through, of how to DO IT YOURSELF!

First you're gonna need a massive shirt, and for the purposes of this DIY, one with buttoned cuffs. This one was marked a size 18. The massiver the better. And, one metre of clear 5mm wide elastic (clear is better as it tacks to itself and will not likely undo even from a single knot, and isn't visually invasive), and two safety pins.

Then get the left arm's sleeve and thread the end of the elastic into the button hole and knot.

At some point (illustrated below) near the side seam of the right hand side, pin two safety pins, just for reference later.

Then you put the shirt on backwards, putting your left arm into a sleeve, folding the collar under, wrapping the remaining arm (with elastic attached) under your right armpit and around your waist. Pull the elastic further around your waist until it meets at the front again at it's starting point, and wrap around the button on the cuff to secure in place.

Now you'll find that the back butt area is a bit ridiculous so just pull any fabric from behind you to your left hip, where you should find the safety pins we placed earlier. Use these to connect the front and back. If there is bunching of fabric in the small of your back, just tuck it under the sleeve-waistbelt

DONE! ...and look at that, you even have a back shoulder pocket if you're lucky ;)

In winter it's the warmth factor, and in summer it's the "I haven't shaved my legs"/ "ahh that top bit of my thighs!" factor. One way or another, tights can save the day.

Despite Wolford's comparatively high prices, they seem to be killing it. I can't say I've ever bought anything of theirs but I am certainly on the verge of doing so. They've got some pretty unique tights going, and nearly everything comes in a few colour options. I especially like their leopard print tights, because the print is a bit bigger and more natural looking. They also have some nice simple bras... Far out, everything looks so formfitting and smoothing!!

At the other end of the "money I have to throw around" spectrum; Topshop, ASOS and We Love Colors. Topshop has some interesting ones, and seems to try and stay on trend, hence the Miu Miu inspired socks, ASOS stocks a few different brands and actually has HEAPS to choose from. If you want to get a bit Jil Sander on it and colour-block the shit out of it, give We Love Colours a shot (they come in 51 colours!).

I finished these floral flats last week, but haven't posted them 'til now because I'm not particularly fond of them. Maybe they just aren't particularly "me"? So here they are with a branch of flowers I ripped off a near by shrub. Romantic, huh?

These flats are the exact same pattern as the black patent ones, but just in a printed floral leather. What I didn't mention last time, is that both pairs have a "bagged edge". So in comparison to other pairs of shoes I've made, you can see these don't have a line of sewing around the top edge. This gives a neater finish, but is a bit more complex pattern-wise and when actually constructing the shoe.

Then I wandered around the garden and took photos of flowers, got inside, got bored and made a collage gif. RAVE RAVE!!

A collaboration that really struck me recently, due to its perfect pairing and execution, is the collaboration between Melbourne based jewellery designer Estelle Dévé and Australian label Arnsdorf. Estelle created quartz and amethyst rings, earrings and necklaces for Arnsdorf's SS 2010/11 Opticks collection that perfectly complemented the clean cut lines and digital crystal prints of the garments.

The raw edges and slightly rough silver combined with the natural precise growth of the quartz are a really stunning combination, producing an earthy yet elegant end product.

You can see Estelle Dévé's collections Lunar Mare and A Fall to Earth on her website, and see what she's up to over on her tumblr and blog.

These lovely jewels will be available at Adelaide's own, The New Guard as well as many other retailers.

I'll definitely be trying to get my hands on these! Or rather, trying to get these on my hands ;)

Once again, Proenza Schouler has created a totally wearable (and achievable!) style for their S/S 2011 show. Matte, beachy strands pinned up into a low haphazard chignon to 'make it look as if she had fallen asleep on the bus on the way home'.

And the product used that made this all possible? The Frederic Fekkai Coiff Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray, a favourite of mine and available exclusively at Mecca Cosmetica.

Earlier in the year I snapped Yousef at Marleston TAFE and then again at the Fashion Avenue event at the Queens Theatre in Adelaide, both for the Attitude Magazine Street Style section.

He definitely is a man with style!

I was flicking through the new issue (Oct 2010) of Shop Til You Drop, and who's name do I see? Yousef Akbar's no less!

Somewhere in the middle of the mag there is a Dotti brochure type thing, and on page 13 of said thing is the Design-A-Bits feature. Yousef is the first winner of the Design-A-Bits competition with his French military inspired jacket. As such, his design has been put into production and will be available in Dotti stores soon!

In December I'll be curating an exhibition titled Non Mode at Format in Adelaide. The point of the exhibition is to provide a place where Adelaide based artists/stylists/photographers/illustrators/designers can display work that may not necessarily belong in a retail environment or a formal gallery. I'm hoping to be able to turn this into an annual thing, but we'll see.

PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER!

Our class started elastic sided asymmetrical ankle boots last week, and I JUST about finished mine today. I would have loved to show you these on, but I was way to eager to post them now, and unfortunately I made two identical soles instead of opposites... so I'll be finishing the other one off next week.

I used a reptile print embossed on bovine leather, which was a nice aesthetic choice but probably not the most appropriate.

Here's why; because the leather is stiff to begin with and then embossed it makes it rather rigid and difficult to stretch, this last has a square front and the pattern is only two pieces so there is a lot of stretching required. To get this done I had to soak the leather in about half a litre of leather conditioner to soften it. As you can see in the second image, the downside to this was that due to all the stretching on the top, the embossed effect has been almost destroyed!

However... these are the most comfortable shoes I have made to date :)

Tell me what lip stain/gloss I should get. I have none. I am AWFUL with lipstick where I only have one MAC lippy and that's it. I am in real need.

A. Ahhhhhh, the dreaded lipstick rut. I think we've all been there- the day you realise you've swiped the same shade on as you run out the door...for the past five months. There are favourites and then there is blind habit. A lip colour, texture and finish can completely change a look or an outfit; not to mention how it can brighten your skin and whiten your teeth. Read on for my top tried-and-tested picks of the crop.

NARS Pure Matte Lipstick

The newest release from NARS, these babies are super pigmented and super matte. I was under the impression they were going to be the lipstick version of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil - a long-standing favourite of mine - but after getting my hands on Vesuvio, the classic blue-red seen above on Heather Marks, I found out how wrong I was. It stayed on throughout a night of dancing (and enthusiastic drinking) and the acai oil, wild mango butter and antioxidants made sure it didn't dry my lips out. There was definitely wa-a-ayyyy more staying power than the Velvet Mattes, and I LOVED those guys. Apologies to everyone I recommended those to. Get these instead.

Chantecaille Lip Chic

Chantecaille is a brand I'm pretty new to. I only got one of these lipstick/balm/gloss hybrids about two weeks ago when they launched but it is now my go-to when I'm in a rush, going out in the sun, needing a bit of subtle colour, feeling a little too matte, when my lips are a little dry.....okay, okay. Pretty much all of the time. They're sheer but the coverage is never uneven, and they grab your lips like a balm instead of just sitting on top and transferring onto the nearest coffee cup. Oh! - and they smell divine; Chantecaille is known for substituting the base ingredient of water in their products with the highest form of rosewater. I know, right?

Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour

And finally, the new big thing. These are Tom Ford's first foray into makeup and they certainly have a very special feel to them. If you've seen his film A Single Man you'll know that he knows his stuff when it comes to classic beauty. The collection boasts twelve colours ranging from bare nude to deep burgundy, and although they are labeled as a 'creamy' lipstick they don't have the type of...oiliness?...that you find in some other designer lipsticks such as YSL's Rouge Volupte or Guerlain's KissKiss. The ingredients are, naturally, luxurious (rare soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil anyone?), but I really think Ford's attention to colour makes these winners. There are literally no duds in this group - there's the perfect 50's fuchsia, the truest vamp red and the brightest (but most wearable) coral I've ever tried on. If this is his first shot at a makeup collection, I can't wait to see what he brings out next.

So there you have it! I could have kept going, this shit is addictive and I have so many favourites. I always recommend trying lipsticks on before you buy them - ESPECIALLY if you're going for nudes or reds, as they leave no room for mistakes.

This week I finished my first proper pair of courts, these being little ballet style flats. As a change to my usual aesthetic, I decided to make these a bit "prettier", hence the bow :)

They're made of all leather aside from the sole which is resin, with the upper being a patent leather. Patent, due to the plastic coating is significantly harder to last (wrap around and form the shape of the shoe), so you can kind of see around the toe slight slight creases where I couldn't pull hard enough and stretch it to get them out. Another lesson learnt I say.

KORINE X SCHOULER

Harmony Korine has teamed up with Proenza Schouler's Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez to create this awesome video, "Act da Fool" for their 2010 Fall collection. The look and feel of it is as though filmed on Super 8 film, sort of skewed on occasion and soft.

There is an interview with the three here, and then just a Q+A with Harmony Korine regarding the video here. It's pretty amusing that Korine's favourite music videos are that of 2 Live Crew, and that he views this video as his version of the Ten Commandments. Korine says that the patterns on the clothing said to him, "...go fuck up the world, burn shit, blow it up, eat mud, snort glue, drink a lot of malt liquor and eat some fried chicken, watch some strippers throw down the booty and find god."

Harmony Korine is best known for his films, Kids, Mister Lonely and Gummo. His most recent film, Trash Humpers from 2009 is probably the most similar to the video created for Proenza Schouler in its style and message. And for any Adelaideians out there, hopefully the Mercury Cinema will be screening a bunch of Korine's films as part of the Cinematheque program early next year so we can see them on the big screen!

As a side note, if any of you are into film making, the Digital Harinezumi 2 can produce very similar video results and photographs. (I have one myself and LOVE it)

So this morning I opened my MacBook to find a tab labelled Hermes - I Love My Scarf sitting at the top of my browser. Took me a lengthy second to remember coming across it (half asleep in the early hours after a gruelling pub shift), but it also cued a flashback to 2009.

You see, French fashion house Hermes has recently launched a separate website - jaimemoncarre (I love my scarf) - as a street style 'blog' featuring girls from London, New York, Paris and Tokyo, with their own unique ways of wearing the classic silks. Interestingly, in 2009 Burberry made the same move by collaborating with Scott Schumann (The Sartorialist) to create the extremely successful site Art Of The Trench. Both are highly interactive and to be honest....very cool. And so they should be - the Hermes scarf and the Burberry trench are universal investment pieces that will never date, but will instead be eternally re-styled and recycled by young and old alike.
That's pretty fucking cool.

The second day we spent visiting Emma the Shoemaker and Phong Chi Lai in their combined studio space. It was very kind of them to let us come in and intrude at 10am and ask a billion questions before they'd even had breakfast.

The studio itself was pretty cute, the shoemakers were hugely knowledgable and a delight to talk to. Both studied at the Adelaide TAFE Footwear Production course, and then moved to Melbourne.

MELBOURNE DAY 1

Our class went down to Melbourne to check out the Shoe Fair and other shoe related business down there. First day we went to Bruce's place, Shoe Lasts Australia, to see what goes on there. Bruce was a lovely chap, and agreed to post us over our purchases so we didn't have to pay for extra baggage on our flights home...

This is the where Bruce can scan feet and then import them into the program to form a last specifically for that persons foot.

This is the machine that the files are sent to and then the last is formed.

Upstairs at Bruce's, where all the second hand lasts are. SO good.

My classmate Ruby holding a second hand last we found, it was massive! We assumed maybe it was for some sort of drag event, or just someone with very large feet?

...aaaaaaaand then we had foods. This was the best drink ever. It was a soft rosewater tea type of thing.

I decided to call this one the oriental cookies and cream, it was in fact sweet soy milk with grass jelly. Good, but not as good as the one above. Oh and some milk buns from Bread Top.

I came across this lookbook for hair accessories designer Jennifer Behr recently and I'm going to be taking some cues from the makeup for the job today. Nothing beats a casual, greasy smokey.

COMP SHOE #2

So this is the second pair of shoes I submitted to the RM Williams competition today!

With this pair I made something that is quite out of line with their current styles, but still a current trend, with the wooden clog base.

I designed the clog base and had Bruce Miller from Shoe Lasts Australia make it for me, then I made the rest of the straps, put the eyelets in, sealed the clog and put it all together. The grey leather is kid skin, and it is lined with a sand coloured pig skin.

Oh and the nails did end up looking quite good, but they're not completely hammered in because I'll need to remove the straps to do a few more coats of the sealant when I get them back from RM's. In case you were wondering :)

Today we needed to submit our shoes for the R.M. Williams competition... was a little nerve wracking making sure everything got done in time but the whole class pulled through pretty well.

This here is the first pair I submitted. It's just quite a simple black leather elastic sided chelsea boot. R.M Williams were kind enough to supply us with their pull tags, so I incorporated them into the back :)

For this pair, I wanted to make a pair that was in keeping with the R.M Williams aesthetic, was missing from their current range and that I would wear.

The Face magazine may not have been entirely focused on fashion, but I always find something I like in any issue I get my hands on. After a very helpful tip-off, I got a whole bunch of them from a little vintage bookstore a few weeks ago for about $3 each... SCORE!

These two images are from different issues, but their gentleness and softness really struck me.

It's also interesting to note that both the photographers and stylists in these shoots are still prolific in the fashion industry, check out their links to see what they've done in more recent times.

Hey dudes. So I finally got a night off to do some bloggin. I've just started my third job (at a pub - I know right) so shit is tiiiight and I still don't have a camera. What're you going to do about it, lose all respect for me?

On top of work, last week I did makeup for a trunkshow at Lisa Ho. It was a fun little event with three models showing the latest summer season, but I, of course, have no photos to prove it. Woops!

First things first, I didn't win the Barlow Shoes competition :( BUT my lovely classmate and friend Hannah McKenna did :) so congratulations to Hannah! YAY!! :)

Now, to the most exciting event of my day.

Our class was told two weeks ago that we would be part of a competition to design a shoe for the Spring Summer 2010/11 range for R.M. Williams, an iconic Australian footwear label. Now I had two designs in mind, but I couldn't get started on them until now because I was waiting on lasts and clog platforms from Bruce (of Shoe Lasts Australia). Usually we use lasts supplied by and kept at Tafe but I wanted specific ones, so these are my first very own lasts.

To my utter delight I found them all in a package on my doorstep when I got home today!!

So here you can see one of each pair. If you look closely you'll notice that the beige ones have a hinge in the middle, this is because they are made for making shoes and boots on so they need to be able to be removed easily. The blue ones on the other hand have no hinge, because they are made for sandals, and therefore don't need to be contorted out from within a shoe.

Here is the sandal last with it's perfectly fitting wooden clog platform!

And here are the wooden clog platforms! They still need to be finished; lightly sanded, stained and sealed. And obviously they still need straps etc :)

BEDAZZLED TO HELL

I completed my Prada inspired rhinestone studded oxfords today. And my word, they were a tiresome, expensive mission. They feature a total of some 280 rhinestone studs, all applied by hand over two days, and hand cut spiky vamp edges. Not to mention the soling took two hours to grind down, which was exhausting. But they're done now! And I am pleased.

LIMECRIME

I was searching for some nice pastel and bright lip colours and my delightful new friend Steph suggested I check out Limecrime (the site seems to be down right at this moment). Now the packaging and all is a bit extreme, but I must say, the colours gave great coverage and were exactly as I expected them to be. There are about 17 colours all up including a nice opaque black. In terms of shine, they're not matte but not too shiny either with a very slight sheen. If I had brown hair I think I'd don the blue daily...

FROM HAND TO FOOT

RUSSIAN BAZAAR

I came across this lovely cover shoot from Harper's Bazaar Russia over on Fashion Gone Rogue. This is a revised version of the July cover shoot photographed by Danil Golovkin, styled by Natalia Alaverdian and featuring model Tanya Dziahileva.

I absolutely love the innovative rephotographed nature of theses images. Having the flowers and ice overlaid on the photographs gives the shoot such a novel and appealing look that I am quite beside myself in awe.

Today was a bit of an unexpected surprise. I woke to find my face plastered across the front page of our main local newspaper, The Advertiser! I was expecting this to be featured on page 26 or something, not the cover on a friday... Fashion and art trumped sport, yay! Anyway, it was there because The Advertiser's Samela Harris came into Tafe earlier in the week to do a story on the Footwear Department's exhibition in the Barlow Shoes shopfront on Rundle Mall as a part of the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) week.

Please go in to Barlow's after Aug 5th to check out the exhibition and vote for my shoes! The winning voter will get a $150 voucher to spend in the store, so there's something in it for you too! :)

On a darker note, I saw this vehicle on my way home today. Sal and I encountered a hearse earlier today too so this was a bit of a hearsy day. Quite fittingly embellished I think... I like the creeping fingers effect in the first pic.

Tafe has started again, holidays are done, and it's back to the shoemaking.

This week I managed to finish a white pair of oxfords, and here they are. The tie-up concept turned out better than I expected, so I'm happy! :) The idea is that anything can replace the laces, clear elastic, bright laces, leather strapping, chains...

Soooooooo the other night I went to a friends 21st, and to my delight it was a dress-up party. AN ANIMAL THEMED DRESS-UP PARTY. Cue me trawling through Style.com to look for Viktor & Rolf's Fall 2004 RTW show, one of the first shows I ever paid attention to when I was 14 and new to the whole fashion thing.
It obviously left a lasting impression.

Some of my recent acquisitions...

The interesting thing with the Miu Miu shoes is that I found them absolutely abhorrent when I first saw them. After seeing them around, combined with different outfits on the net I came round and kinda sorta fell in love with them. That said, I don't have $600 or so US dollars to go throwing around at nice sparkly things so I opted for the knock off version. I guess this kind of works in with the fact that my relationship of like-age with them is quite temperamental. I have to say though, they are probably the comfortable heels I own. The earrings are part of my "rave" obsession.

Love this in-your-face tshirt, it's oversized and outrageous. Sunglasses are again a bit in the "rave" realm, but go quite well with my hair.

Tribal Earrings from asos : Vintage Leather Tribal Bangle

These earrings were a bargain at $10 from an asos sale, and the bangle was given to me by Ryder's grandmother, Yvonne Harris. She bought it at one of the first exhibitions of Tribal Artwork and Jewellery at London's Liberty, amazing.

COSTUME DEPARTMENT #3

So I finally got around to watching Run, Lola, Run after several months of pestering by my bf. It is a VERY 90s (1998 to be exact) German film directed by Tom Tykwer. Aside from the copious amounts of running, as you'd expect from a film with "run" in it's title twice, it was really good and I would recommend watching it.

Now, onto the style related!

1. First up, I LOVED Lola's (played by Franka Potente) ridiculously home-y/90s/euro outfit. She remains in the same outfit throughout. It consists of a diy cut off singlet crop top in a teal-ish blue colour, checked green wide fit pants, white bra, Dr Marten shoes and a loose belt with attached coin pouch. Oh and her fantastic bright orange hair, although I'd have preferred it if it wasn't verging on dreads.

(she has a pet turtle!!)

2. Her grungy jewellery. This diy looking necklace, and her random assortment of rings; a big silver bauble, what looks like Bruce Lee wearing a tiara, and a colourful gemlike one.

3. Also of note, her bf Manni's arm tattoo. I have no idea what it is of, but it really caught my eye. Lola also has tattoos but they can't really be seen clearly in any scene.

The costume designer on this film was Monika Jacobs who interestingly enough was the costume designer on one of my favourite films, Wings of Desire. Christa Krista was the hair designer, one of the makeup artists was Babette Broseke who also did makeup for the TV series Lexx and the other makeup artist was Margit Neufink.

I was quite suprised to find that Franka Potente who plays Lola, has also had acting roles in The Bourne Supremacy, Romulus My Father, Blow and TV show House M. D.
